Hey everyone! So for my Gender Studies class this semester we had to do service learning/community service for the Fairfield County Women's Center that is located at my college. I, as well as most of my class, had no clue we even had a Women's Center until our teacher told us about it. It's frustrating because this Center is there to help women in need, but no one even knows it exists. Moreso, I feel the importance of not only the center but this clas, is to open people's minds to the way our society works. We're such a gender biased community - women are still paid less than men for the same (or more work), why women are always the ones to be looked at while men are the ones allowed to do the looking (though reverse these roles and we'll have problems), why men have so much trouble communicating with women, why men have so much trouble expressing emotion, why certain traits are considered "girly" while some are "manly" and why does society ascribe these traits to us from the second we are born? If you're a girl you must be dressed in pink and play with dolls right? And if you're a guy you gotta wear blue and play rough and with trucks and action figures... why is this? Why do we still live by these standards despite claiming that we, as a species, have grown so open minded over the centuries? What does it mean to be transgendered? What kind of inequalities does this bring upon a person? ...and so on so on. I feel that all of you who are on this friends list are aware of these issues. I feel the furry community is one of the most intriguing places when it comes to gender. Pretty much everyone I have met is open minded about different sexualities, gender equalities, and the way our society treats those who are different. Overall I feel we're a very intelligent and open minded community, unlike lots of other people in our world. Therefore, I want to ask all of you to please join the group site I and my friend Tom created for this project. You don't have to post, you don't have to comment, you don't have to do anything. But knowing that there are people out there interested in this topic will help us promote our site. This page is in no way a feminist type page. While yes, a lot of the issues focus on women, it is a place for men as well. It's a place for everyone to be open minded and express what they feel about society and gender and the way our world works. Interested? Come join Unengendered Species! Thanks guys! :3 feeling: accomplished current noise: Divine Heresy - Failed Creation
